Root Canal Treatment
A huge amount of the population suffers from toothache at some point or the other. Tooth pain is a sign of infection in the tooth. A tooth is made up of three layers, the outermost being the enamel, which is the hardest layer of the tooth, beneath that is dentin. The dentin carries the sensation present in the tooth. The innermost layer is the pulp which carries the nerve and blood supply of the tooth.
Dental caries is an infectious disease that affects the tooth. You may feel nothing when dental caries invade the enamel, however, when they reach the dentin you may feel sensitivity to heat or cold. When dental caries reaches the pulp, the tooth starts giving symptoms of pain and discomfort. We have only two options left when the tooth reaches that stage, it could be either a root canal treatment or extraction.
At Gurukripa Dental Clinic, we are strong advocates of saving natural teeth; hence we always treat such teeth with root canal procedures. We have been relieving our patients of pain for a few years now.
What is a root canal treatment?
The procedure to clean the tooth and relieve it of the infection is called as a root canal procedure.
The root canal procedure is made up of the following steps:
- Examination: A tooth is examined clinically and then radiographic investigations are done to access the extent of the damage. Once that is done the tooth is prepared for a root canal procedure.
- Removal of the infection: The infected pulp tissue is completely removed from the tooth and the root portion of the tooth.
- Cleaning the tooth: After the removal of the pulp, the root chambers are thoroughly cleaned and shaped well. Intracanal medicaments are used to disinfect the tooth. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia.
- Filling the tooth: Once the cleaning and shaping is done, the canal is filled with a biocompatible material. After the canals are filled, the cavity is filled with an appropriate filling material.
- Crown preparation and delivery: After the completion of the root canal procedure, the tooth is prepared to receive the crown. We deliver all types of crowns depending upon the requirement of the patients.
What are the signs and symptoms of a pulpal infection?
Various symptoms can indicate that your tooth has been infected. These are:
- Pain in the tooth, especially during the night
- Pain while eating
- Sensitivity to cold and sweet food
- Pus formation around a tooth

If you have any of the above-mentioned symptoms then you are suffering from pulpitis or pulpal inflammation.
