Oral Surgery

This is a branch of dentistry that deals with the surgical management of problems that affect the head, neck, and face region. There are a few conditions that may require surgical intervention such as

Wisdom tooth removal

Removal of any other impacted tooth

Surgeries to cure periodontal diseases

Surgeries to improve the smile or contouring the gum line

Surgeries for the removal of a cyst

For the management of the facial trauma

We deal with all kinds of surgical procedures at Gurukripa Dental Clinic.

Disimpaction

Whenever a tooth fails to erupt into the oral cavity and is embedded in the bone partially or fully, such a tooth is called an impacted tooth. An impacted tooth can cause pain while erupting, pressure on the adjacent tooth, and difficulty in opening the mouth. An impacted tooth if fails to erupt has to be removed. The surgical procedure to remove the impacted tooth is known as disimpaction.

The procedure is carried out under chair-side anesthesia after necessary investigations are carried out.

Implants

Implants are the artificial replacement of natural teeth. There could be many reasons for the loss of natural teeth. Implants are by far the closest replacement of a missing tooth structure. After the placement, the implants take some time to integrate with the bone. After the integration, the crown is placed over the implants and they become functional in the oral cavity.

Implants are placed on the required site surgically. After the placement, they are left to integrate for some time.

Periodontal surgeries

Periodontal diseases affect a large number of people. The symptoms of periodontal diseases are bleeding from the gums, mobility of the teeth, pus draining from a tooth, and bad breath. Different surgeries for correction of periodontal problems are:

Flap surgery

A flap is raised and the infected area is thoroughly cleaned to get rid of the infection. After the flap is raised, the bone and the adjoining tissues are cleaned with the help of scaling and root planing.

Bone or soft tissue grafting

Bone grafting:  A bone graft is put in the area of bone loss after raising a flap. This can help in curing the hard tissue defect

Soft tissue grafting: The soft tissue defected like the gingival recession is treated with the help of a soft tissue graft from any adjoining part of the defect. The soft tissue graft is then sutured back and allowed to integrate at the surgical site.

Gum surgeries

Gingivectomy or Gingivoplasty: These procedures involve the removal of some part of the gingival tissue. This surgery is done for the correction of a gummy smile or to treat the overgrowth of the gingival due to some drugs used to treat various chronic conditions.

Surgical crown lengthening

Surgical crown lengthening is usually done to make the tooth functional to receive the prosthesis. The clinical length of the crown is increased, this further aids in retention of the crown in the long run.

The various other minor surgical procedures carried out at Gurukripa Dental Clinic are:

Managing tongue ties in children and adults

Managing high frenal attachments

Management of cysts

  • Soft and cold diet for a few days after the surgery
  • Avoid spicy food
  • Avoid touching your surgical site with your tongue
  • Cold fermentation after surgery helps to control the post-operative surgery
  • Take your medication on time
  • No heavy exercise for 24-48 hours
  • Gargle well after the meals to ensure the site is well maintained.
  • Inform your doctor in case you have massive pain or bleeding at the surgical site
  • Visit your doctor for recalls and the removal of the sutures
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking: Smoking is a deterrent in the healing of wounds.
  • Even though it is a chairside procedure, discomfort is present after the surgery, so it would be better if you take a day or two off after the surgery.
  • Oral hygiene maintenance: The surgical site has to be maintained well. The accumulation of plaque and food particles can lead to infection of the surgical site. We would guide you well after the surgery is completed.
